Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES)

YES is a real learning experience in which senior secondary school students form and register companies, become directors, and develop products and services which they market and sell.

YES teaches the skills required to run a business such as budgeting, planning, communication, marketing, decision making, reporting, risk management and teamwork. It adds value to school-based knowledge, it teaches the value of being enterprising - it teaches young people to take, and manage risks.

Enterprise Northland provides support to the Enterprise Coordinators in each school and coordinates a number of activities throughout the year for students to participate in, helping to prepare them for each step of their business’ life and adding to the students knowledge and experience.

Director and Managing Director Seminars are held that focus on the skills required to operate a successful business, competitions for business cards, business plans and radio advertising are held. Training workshops are held to help students prepare for Oral Presentations and Trade Fairs. Trade Fairs are coordinated in Kerikeri and Whangarei for students to market and sell their products and services to the general public.

Enterprise New Zealand Trust runs the Lion Foundation YES programme, and Enterprise Northland is the regional coordinator.
