Young Entrepreneur Programme (YEP)

Dots

YEP was a pilot programme, that started in 2003. YEP has two strands, the first of which aims to develop an enterprise culture across the curriculum through initiatives such as the Enterprise Leadership awards, seminars and Enterprise Week.

YEP encourages and recognises outstanding leadership in the area of enterprise, such as having a strong purpose and vision, behaving ethically, being accountable, managing conflict effectively, thinking laterally and being able to work through any cultural or social challenges.

Awards are made every year to Northland’s Most Outstanding Enterprise Student and Leader, and Most Outstanding School.

The award for Most Outstanding School is judged on a range of criteria including the school’s involvement in the Enterprise Studies programme, the level of achievement of the students participating in these programmes and the extent to which Enterprise culture is created and supported within the school.

The second strand to YEP challenges participants to develop a new or existing idea into a viable business, ultimately becoming job creators.

A training programme is provided by NorthTec, mentors are matched to the businesses, start up capital is available, and an on-going support programme is provided.
