KauriFest 07 will be launched in Whangarei on the weekend of 7 th to the 9 th September with attractions that will appeal to both Northlanders and visitors to the region.

“Whangarei, as the capital of Northland, will kick start KauriFest, with recreation and sporting events, music, cuisine, art and cultural activities organized for the weekend” said Paula Cabrera-Crocker, the KauriFest event coordinator.

Details are still being finalised for some of the draw cards of that weekend and the main Whangarei attractions will be announced shortly. More information will be available from the official festival website www.kaurifest.com

As well as two major events planned in the city on Friday and Saturday, other activities will be occurring at the Town Basin, Heritage Park, A.H. Reed Park, Mt Tiger, the Library and the Old Library Arts Centre on Sunday 9th.

Kaipara, the kauri coast, is the focus of KauriFest's second weekend with events scheduled to take place in Mangawhai, Matakohe, Paparoa and Dargaville.

The KauriFest spotlight turns to the Hokianga for the 21 st to the 23 rd of September, with a range of arts, music, cultural and heritage activities planned to celebrate the diversity of that area.

The Festival culminates in Paihia on the last weekend of September with Taste Bay of Islands. This will showcase Northland produce and specialist foods on the Saturday with an event featuring indigenous canapés in the evening.

“Kauri past present and future is the theme of this year's festival” said Paula Cabrera-Crocker. There'll be something all Northlanders can relate to and be proud of in Kaurifest 07”.

Supported by Enterprise Northland, Northland's KauriFest is the first New Zealand festival in the What's on in New Zealand Spring Festival Campaign being marketed by Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) to domestic and overseas travellers, and targeting the Australian market in particular .
