Another enterprising success |

25 May, 2006EDUCATION : MEDIA RELEASES 2006It was another event at which Northland could take pride in the achievements of its Education for Enterprise (E4E) programmes at Forum North this week. In front of an enthusiastic audience of 200 students, teachers, sponsors and parents, Enterprise Northland was able to showcase and celebrate just some of its nation-leading enterprise education success stories. Organised by David Templeton , Northland's E4E Coordinator, the evening was interspersed with six presentations to showcase just some of the exciting developments under the Northland Enterprising Teachers (NET) project. Phillipa Stuart of Cherish Wellbeing was in the audience and said that she was blown away by the vision and selfless attitude of the budding entrepreneurs. Springbank School highlighted the range of enterprising activities that give the school its special character, Whangarei Girls' High School presented the work of its “enterprise cell,” CREATE, and the impact it is having in the school. Northland College highlighted its very innovative Trades School , Whangarei Boys' High School through its Apprenticeships Work project emphasised the huge importance of school/community partnerships. Kamo High School's Alan Bayly leaped around the stage in his enthusiasm for their International Money Stuff programme, and Kerikeri High School students from the GIFT and NZ Force teams spoke of the two projects that are taking them to international competition in Colorado USA this next week. The evening was also able to highlight some of the best in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES). Three sponsored competitions as a part of the YES resulted in the following awards: More FM Advertising Competition – 3 rd : Study For Success, Bream Bay College , 2 nd : Happy Chappys, Kerikeri High School , 1 st : Active Attitude, Kamo High School . Keri Print and Design Business Card Competition – Northpower area: Runner-up: Active Attitude, Kamo High School , 1 st : Wax That, Tikipunga High School ; Top Energy area: Runner-up: Active Software Solutions Springbank School , 1 st : E-Charger, Kerikeri High School . Northland Polytechnic Written Business Plan Competition – Joint winners – Happy Chappys and NEAT Placemats, both from Kerikeri High School . The big event of the evening was the finals of the YES 2006 Oral Presentations. After excellent presentations from the eight top teams from throughout Northland the judges were able to announce the winners as Active Software Solutions , from Springbank School , with its anti-txt bullying programme. In second place was Why Not GLOW , Whangarei Girls' High School, and in third place, Happy Chappys from Kerikeri High School . |
