17 August, 2006EDUCATION : MEDIA RELEASES 2006Almost 50 companies are participating in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) throughout Northland this year. The scheme involves high school students starting up their own company, headed by a group of Directors to either sell a product or offer a service. Around 30 companies took the opportunity to market their products and services at the Trade Fairs held recently In Kerikeri and Whangarei. Unfortunately for the Far North schools, torrential rain prevented many companies from attending the Trade Fair in Kerikeri, however some were able to join the Whangarei event at Forum North on Sunday 13th. The Whangarei Trade Fair was opened by Whangarei District Councillor John Williamson and there was an impressive range of products available, from anti-text bullying software through to gifts, jewellery, toys, food and a whole range of other exciting products. Education 4 Enterprise Regional Coordinator Dave Templeton congratulated the many companies on creating a real buzz around Forum North and acknowledged and thanked supporters and sponsors of this scheme; Top Energy; Northpower; Stephen Gillingham's World Travel; ASB; Trixie Newton's World Travel.
