DESTINATION NORTHLAND : MEDIA RELEASES 2004

Three Northland companies made it through to the final round of judging in the New Zealand Tourism Awards for 2004.

They are the Ancient Kauri Kingdom, located near Kaitaia, in the Attractions and Activities category; Dive! Tutukaka, also in Attractions and Activities; and Destination Northland, for Innovation in Strategic Planning and Leadership.

These organisations were named last night as nominees in the awards, meaning they have been chosen on the strength of their written entries to receive in-depth site visits from industry judges.

All three have previously featured in the awards. The Ancient Kauri Kingdom was a category winner in 2001, Destination Northland won categories in 1999 and 2001, and Dive! Tutukaka is a past nominee.

Enterprise Northland chief executive Brian Roberts said the awards represent the highest possible accolade for New Zealand tourism operators.

“Northland traditionally has a high profile in the tourism awards. The region is renowned for its natural attractions and it’s great that we can complement that with tourism operators who are committed to providing a world-class visitor experience.”

The awards are managed by the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIANZ). The winners will be announced on August 25 in Taupo.
