The Northland Young Enterprise Scheme company of the year, Kamo High School 's Dot.Com, has won the prestigious MORE FM Award for Communications at the Lion Foundation YES National Awards in Wellington.

Dot.com received the award from Governor General, Dame Silvia Cartwright and Craig Loach from MORE FM at a gala dinner held recently at the Michael Fowler Centre.

Dot.com attended the ceremony and company directors Jenna Hansen and Mathew Morgan were in Wellington to accept the award.

It was a unique opportunity to meet the best of the best national Young Enterprisers working under the Enterprise New Zealand Trust YES initiative.

While presenting the Todd Corporation Ltd Award for Young Enterprisers, Chairman John Todd stated "I do not have the slightest doubt as to the value of the Young Enterprise Scheme. The best investment that we can make as a country is in education, and one of the results of this investment can be seen in the outstanding innovation and ideas that you young enterprisers have demonstrated. If only this spirit and initiative were more widely instilled and taught in all of our schools, we could be confident that New Zealand would rise again in the ranks of the OECD countries."

The Dot.com directors also met the US Ambassador and benefited from advice from eminent business people and sponsors. Meeting with the 18 regional winners proved exciting; Dot.com placed a well-deserved 6 th , culminating months of effort, establishing and running their website development business. The win was celebrated by a congregation of Dot.com supporters over dinner that evening.

Dot.com directors are so committed to growing their enterprise, that they are the first Northland YES company to enroll in the Young Entrepreneur Programme (YEP), commencing in December. YEP, sponsored by Enterprise Northland and Industry New Zealand , will allow promising YES directors to develop real companies with additional training, mentoring and access to start-up capital. Dot.com's general director, Holly Doar said "we had loads of fun and really enjoyed ourselves in Wellington . We are looking forward to next year and doing new and exciting things in the YEP programme."
