Northland has a significant population of artists, many of whom sell their talents and works outside the region.

A strategy for Northland's creative industries has been developed identifying initiatives which contribute to an environment in which artist thrive and the region benefits from their success.

  Artist: Toi Maihi

The strategy covers all aspects of the arts:

  • Performing (music, dance, acting)
  • Visual
  • Literary
  • Educators
  • Amateurs
  • Professionals
  • Individuals
  • Organisations

A steering group of 14 people was formed to drive the development of the strategy. This group brought together artists of all media, along with arts workers and district council representatives. Four agencies are involved - Enterprise Northland, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the Northland Arts Promotion Trust and Creative New Zealand.

The strategy - Arts in the regional frame - a strategic framework for the creative industries arts sector in Northland, is available for download by clicking here.
